Six different acts open for Matchbox Twenty on the 2027 tour, and the one you get depends entirely on which date you buy. The All-American Rejects play the first four shows in May. The Wallflowers play the next 25, from late May through the start of July. David Gray plays the 18 July shows. O.A.R. play four in early August, and Matt Nathanson plays the last two. A sixth act, The Lucky, joins The Wallflowers for three nights in California and Nevada.
So there is no single answer to this one. A ticket in Nashville and a ticket in Philadelphia get you two completely different nights before Matchbox Twenty comes on. The table below has every date with its opener, so you can check your city before you buy.
Matchbox Twenty announced the tour on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, and named every opening act that same day. Tickets went on sale Friday, October 23 at 10 a.m. local time, so these shows are already selling.
The Six Opening Acts
The All-American Rejects play the first four shows: Birmingham, Charlotte, Nashville and Kansas City, May 15 through May 20. They are the loudest of the six, and the pairing makes sense if you found both bands on the radio: "Swing, Swing", "Dirty Little Secret" and "Gives You Hell" sit about five years after Matchbox Twenty's run of hits. These four shows are the only ones they play, so this is a short window.
The Wallflowers play 25 shows, far and away the most of anyone. They open every date from Red Rocks on May 22 through Virginia Beach on July 3. Jakob Dylan's band is the most natural fit on the tour and the least surprising: they also opened Matchbox Twenty shows in 2020 and 2022, and "One Headlight" and "6th Avenue Heartache" land with the same crowd. If you are buying a ticket in the western half of the country or in Florida, The Wallflowers are almost certainly who you are getting.
The Lucky are the one you may not know. They play three nights only, Mountain View, Los Angeles and Las Vegas on June 8, 9 and 11, and they play alongside The Wallflowers rather than instead of them. The band is led by Maison Thomas, Rob Thomas's son, so those three shows are a family night as much as anything. If you want the fullest lineup of the tour, those are the dates with three acts on stage.
David Gray takes over for the whole of July, 18 shows from Burgettstown on July 7 through Milwaukee on August 1. This is the pairing worth planning around. Gray is a headliner in his own right, White Ladder sold in the millions, and "Babylon" and "This Year's Love" are not opening-act material in most people's minds. Everything east of the Mississippi gets him.
O.A.R. play four shows in early August: Brandon, Orange Beach, Charleston and Raleigh. They are the summer-amphitheater band of the group, and those four nights are the most straightforwardly fun ones on the calendar.
Matt Nathanson plays the final two shows, Cuyahoga Falls on August 11 and Grand Rapids on August 12. He has opened for Matchbox Twenty before, so closing the tour out is a familiar spot for him.
No set times have been announced for any date. At an amphitheater show with one opener, plan on doors about two hours before Matchbox Twenty plays; on the three nights with two openers, give yourself longer.
Every 2027 Date and Opener
Fifty-three shows from May 15 to August 12. The tour marks 30 years since Yourself or Someone Like You, and ticket listings call it Matchbox Twenty 30.

Matchbox Twenty also play the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California on Sunday, April 25, 2027, three weeks before the tour starts. That is a festival set with its own lineup, so none of the openers above apply to it.
Two things stand out in the list. The first is Red Rocks: the tour was announced with one night there, May 22, and a second night on May 23 was added afterward. The Wallflowers play both. The second is Vancouver on May 30, at the Freedom Mobile Arch. That is the new 10,000-seat amphitheater on the PNE grounds in Hastings Park, which opened in June 2026 and replaced the old amphitheater that had been there since the 1960s. The Cincinnati show on July 27 is confirmed, but the venue has not been named yet.
Tickets
Tickets have been on sale since Friday, October 23, 2026. The Spotify presale and the artist presale both ran on Tuesday, October 20, so those windows are closed. Everything is through Ticketmaster except Red Rocks, which sells through AXS as it does for every show there.
You can find current dates on Ticketmaster's Matchbox Twenty artist page and on SeatGeek. For more on who else is out next year, see our rock tour dates and alternative tour dates pages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is opening for Matchbox Twenty in 2027?
It depends on the date. The All-American Rejects play the four May shows from Birmingham to Kansas City. The Wallflowers play 25 shows from May 22 to July 3. David Gray plays the 18 shows from July 7 to August 1. O.A.R. play four shows in early August, and Matt Nathanson plays the last two. The Lucky join The Wallflowers on June 8, 9 and 11.
Does The Wallflowers play every date?
No. The Wallflowers play 25 of the 53 shows, which is more than anyone else, but they stop after Virginia Beach on July 3. Nothing from July 7 onward has them.
Which shows have two opening acts?
Three: Mountain View on June 8, Los Angeles on June 9 and Las Vegas on June 11. The Wallflowers and The Lucky both play those nights.
Who are The Lucky?
A band led by Maison Thomas, the son of Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas. They play three dates on this tour and nothing else on the calendar.
Is David Gray opening the whole tour?
No. David Gray plays 18 shows, from Burgettstown on July 7 through Milwaukee on August 1. Everything before and after has someone else.
When do Matchbox Twenty 2027 tickets go on sale?
They already did. General tickets went on sale Friday, October 23, 2026 at 10 a.m. local time, after presales on Tuesday, October 20.
Is Matchbox Twenty playing outside North America in 2027?
Nothing is scheduled. Rob Thomas has said the band intends to return to Australia, but no dates, venues or on-sale times have been announced, so treat it as a plan rather than a tour.
How long will the opening act play?
No set times have been announced. On an amphitheater tour like this, a single opener usually plays somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour. Check your venue's own page closer to the date, since that is where start times get posted first.
